Ed Lipscomb was born on August 5, 1939, in Shelby, North Carolina, to Edgar Wendell Lipscomb and Oris Lee Jones. He spent most of his childhood in Boiling Springs, N.C., and graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1957. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. Upon honorable discharge, he moved to Kansas City, MO, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Mergen. They were married on January 24, 1970, and welcomed three children.
He was employed by Allied Signal for the majority of his career and also proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves from 1979 until retiring as a Petty Officer First Class in 1994. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and spending time with family and friends.
Ed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Mergen) Lipscomb; his children, Brian Lipscomb of Winchester, VA, Stephen Lipscomb and spouse Suzanne Luna Lipscomb of Olathe, KS, Michelle (Lipscomb) Kruse and spouse Stephen Kruse of Spring Hill, KS; and three grandchildren, Bailey Kruse, Mace Kruse, and Ezra Lipscomb. Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis Lipscomb.
Services will be at McGilley and Frye Funeral Home at 105 E. Loula St., Olathe, KS 66061 on Thursday, June 9th, beginning with the Rosary Prayer at 10:00 a.m., followed by a visitation from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Interment will be at 1:30 at Leavenworth National Cemetery 150 Muncie Road Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
