Edna was born on November 25, 1942, in Olathe, KS, to Frances Ahlenstorf and Hadley Voigts. She and her siblings - Merle Voigts and Vaunda Voigts Palmer - remember a home grounded in faith, family values, and Kansas roots.
After beginning her studies at Kansas State University, Edna graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This professional start launched a lifelong commitment to caring for others, from her early days in an Olathe hospital to her years serving her community as a compassionate school nurse. This talent for nurturing stayed with her throughout her entire life, touching everyone she met.
Edna was married to Martin Pitts, her high school sweetheart, for 58 years. Her greatest joy in life was her family, which grew to include three children: Cheryl Pitts Zobal (Dan), Cecily Pitts Miller (Loren), and Eric Pitts (Bricey). She was the proud grandmother of nine: Alec (Kara), Emma, and Andrew Zobal; Jordan(Bryce), and Hunter Miller; and Timothy, Matthew, Nathan, and Riley Pitts. Edna was also a doting great-grandmother to Sam and Will, the children of Alec and Kara.
Edna possessed a naturally empathetic and sensitive heart. While she preferred to stay out of the center of attention, her gentle and reserved nature was paired with a spirit that would truly do anything for anyone. Over the years, she found great peace in her garden, among her beloved animals—especially her dogs, Buddy and Muffin, and her donkeys, Priscilla and Elvis—and through her many different volunteer activities. She also cherished traveling, time spent on the golf course, and the simple joy of being with her friends.
Edna’s life was defined by an unwavering love for Jesus. She lived out this devotion as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship and as an active, connecting member of Denton Bible Church. She leaves a legacy of quiet strength, selfless service, and an enduring commitment to faith and family.
In honor of Edna’s life there will be a ceremony on April 11 at 2 PM at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe KS. Additionally, there will be a celebration of life in Denton TX, in late April.
Memorial donations can be made to Bible Study Fellowship or a charity of your choice.
