Eva Viola (Sherffius) Johnson passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family.
Eva was born on May 23, 1921 in Elmdale, KS, to William Lee and Effie Amelia Sherffius. At age 6, Eva began attending the Kansas School for the Deaf, where she met her future husband, Arnold Oscar Johnson. The two married August 22, 1942, and were married 42 years before Arnold passed away. The couple had two children, Ellen Amelia (Johnson) Ellis and Sally Ann (Johnson) Chadwick.
She enjoyed a rich, full life, which included a lot of traveling while her husband was alive; serving at the Senior Center in Olathe; participating in the Olathe Club for the Deaf; volunteering at the Deaf Cultural Center; enjoying a great game night with friends; attending and worshipping at the College Church of the Nazarene, of which she was a member; crocheting many beautiful items she gifted to family and friends; walking outside; and watching the birds and the flowers in her yard. Of course, spending time with family and getting hugs from her many grandchildren filled her with joy. Most of all, Eva loved her Lord and rarely would anyone visit without seeing her Bible open on the table beside her. Her gentle, kind, loving spirit represented Christ in all she did.
Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, on December 20, 1985, and her daughter, Ellen Ellis, on January 29, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Johnson) Chadwick and husband, Merle; grandchildren Curtis (Dana) Ellis; Cheri (Bobby) Noe; Cynthia (Jim) Riggs; Chris (Kim) Ellis; Troy (Racheal) Chadwick; Sarah (Brian) Moser; Amanda (Zeke) Chancey; seven grandchildren, and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.
