George is survived by his loving wife Jennie of 52 years, son Carey Crowder, daughter Cassandra (Bill) Tucker, sister J. Anne (Joe) Cocchi and nieces, nephews and extended family.
George was born September 9, 1939 in Marion, Illinois to M. J. and Esther (Rix) Crowder. He had a very meritorious 26-year career with the US Army, where he retired as Colonel. He was active in Army ROTC, and continued at college at Washington University, St. Louis (BSEE 1961). He served in Vietnam and received The Bronze Star Medal (BSM ARCOM). George later pursued his Masters at Arizona State University (MSIE 1971), and advanced military studies at US Army Command & General Staff College (Ft. Leavenworth, KS) and US Army War College (Carlisle, PA) and received many other medals of commendation. George thrived on the challenges and successes the military gave him. He became acquainted with many good people during his career, and he enjoyed it very much.
He also enjoyed music, reading, electronics, amateur radio (W5QUE, KD5JM), rock hounding and camping with the family in his 4WD across this great United States. George was a proud benefactor of The National Museum of the U.S. Army.
It is with deep gratitude that the family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Great Plains SPCA or Parkinson Research Foundation.
George will be cremated according to his wishes. Inurnment with Military Honors is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery 395 Biddle Blvd. Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Those wishing to sign George’s guestbook may do so at www.mcgilley-frye.com
