

Gwen Ann Ellenbecker, 63, passed away in her home surrounded by the family who loved her the most, on December 14th, 2025. Gwen grew up in Gettysburg, South Dakota, where she later met her husband Mike. During their 41 years of marriage they spent time living in Nebraska, South Dakota, Ohio and Kansas with their two daughters, Lindsey and Chelsie.
Gwen found her home when their family moved to Kansas in 1999. There Gwen worked in the office at Cedar Creek Elementary, where she retired after 24 years. Gwen loved working with the kids and was always known for being a friendly face to families at the school and lifting the spirits of the teachers and staff she worked with. She was awarded an employee excellence award from Olathe Public Schools for her dedication to the students.
Gwen valued her family and friends and had a passion for experiences over things. She loved seeing live music and dancing the night away with her husband Mike, trips to the lake with her friends, and entertaining at the house. Gwen always wanted her house to be a place her kids and their friends could have fun as well. Gwen loved reading and enjoyed book club with her friends. She was also a wonderful baker and always loved to have everyone's favorite treats on hand.
She is survived by her husband Mike Ellenbecker, her daughters Lindsey (Andy) Holcomb and Chelsie Ellenbecker, her sister Linda (Greg) Fuller, nieces, nephews and many friends. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Audrey Marx, her brother Bret Marx and her son Nicholas Ellenbecker.
Throughout her life, Gwen was incredibly thoughtful, always wanting the people in her life to feel cared for. She was loved by many and will be missed deeply.
Gwen had a special place in her heart for the students she worked with. Donations can be made in her honor to No Kid Hungry.
