

Lyla was born on February 5, 1936 to Lyle and Aline (Stong) Bruce in Elk City, KS. She was employed by Elkhorn School District and Roncolli Catholic Schools as an Accountant. Lyla loved to write stories, watch birds and above all was her passion of quilt making. As a Master Quilt Maker, she donated numerous quilts to various organizations. Many family members cherish the quilt made especially for them. Her love of cooking has been passed on through the generations. She will be remembered as a dedicated mother, loving grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many.
Ms. Berry was preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Lynda Berry and Robina Hutfless and sister Carol Cohee.
Lyla is survived by her devoted children, Bill (Cindy) Berry of Olathe, KS, Allen Berry of Omaha, NE, and Lyla Hinsley of Olathe, KS; brother, Tom (Kay) Bruce of Elk City, KS; 2 sisters, Violet Brownrigg of Welda, KS and Alberta (Robert) Kroeker of Eugene, OR. Also left to cherish her memory are 7 grandchildren, Brent (Jenny) Berry, Jim (Carah) Berry, Lynda Hinsley, Kathryn (Mike) Bierle, Brett Hinsley, Joshua (Rochelle) Berry and Martin Hutfless, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11am, Saturday, February 28th, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Elk City, KS. In lieu of flowers, please remember Lyla by the quilt she made you and if attending, please bring your cherished quilt to the services.
