Marlo Loren Vanden Hull was born on March 13, 1935 in Archer, Iowa to Joe and Mina (Rensink) Vanden Hull. When Marlo was in junior high, they moved to Ireton, Iowa where he attended country school for a couple of years. He then graduated from high school in Ireton. Following high school, Marlo worked for Van Ort Produce until he was called into the Service. He was drafted into the US Army in August of 1957 and attended basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado. He then married Harriet Joan Tensen of Sheldon, Iowa, on October 16, 1957 at Newkirk Church in Hospers, Iowa. He then worked in the Old Guard in Washington D.C. He mostly worked at Arlington National Cemetery and received his Honorable discharge in July of 1958. When he returned home, he returned to work for Van Ort for a few years, and during that time their children Doug, Patti, and Rick were born. He then moved to a farm nears Hospers, Iowa where Marlo and Harriet’s youngest sons, Jim and Gary, were born. The farm was enjoyed by all, especially Marlo. In 1985, Marlo and Harriet moved to the city and made their home in Overland Park, Kansas. Marlo worked as a maintenance/custodian at their then home church until he retired in 1997 after 12 years of service. Following retirement, Marlo and Harriet placed their church membership with Community Covenant Church in Lenexa, Kansas.
