Mike was born August 15, 1963 in Kansas City, MO to parents Martin and Hazel (Schooley) Joyce.
He is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Hazel and David Todd, and by his brother, Brian Joyce.
Survivors to cherish memories of Mike are his father and step-mother, Martin and Judy Townley Joyce of Kansas City, MO; sisters Kathleen Wall and husband Orie of Overland Park, and Patricia Crainshaw of Olathe, KS; step-sister Jolie Eaton and husband Craig of Lee’s Summit, MO and step-brother Brion Little of Wichita, KS; aunt and uncle, Marcile and Richard Schooley of Cambridge, KS; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two of Mike’s greatest loves, besides family and friends, were baseball and the Kansas Flint Hills. In his youth, he was a ball boy for the KC Royals and had ambition and talent enough to play professional baseball, prior to a misfortunate accident at age 19 that altered his course. Despite the physical setbacks incurred from it, he successfully pursued a related career as sports fields manager for Miller Woods Sports Fields (subsequently Blue Valley Parks and Rec in Overland Park). When he retired, Mike realized another dream as he bought a home and resided in the Flint Hills, putting him near his loving family in that area. His family, especially Dad Marty, will forever hold dear the knowledge that Michael Joyce managed to live out his “Field of Dreams” – pun intended.
