

Carmine J. Vastola, 92, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home-Menlo Park, in Edison. Born in New York City, Carmine, known to his family as “Lefty”, lived in the Lafayette Estates section of Fords, and the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan before moving to Edison. He was a Teamster driving for Roadway Express for 25 years, retiring in 1985. A member of the Freehold American Legion; a parishioner of St. Thomas More Church, Manalapan; serving in the US Navy from 1943 to 1957 in the Pacific Theater in WWII and the Korean War as a 2nd class radar man. He loved fishing and was an avid NY Yankee fan.
Carmine was predeceased by his wife, Edna May Vastola, in 2010; his brother, John Vastola; and his sister, Nicoletta Claffey. He is survived by his sons: Lawrence C., Michael J., Mark M., and Joseph J. Vastola; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation is Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Rt. 9, Old Bridge, NJ. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 10am at St. Thomas More Church, Manalapan. Interment will follow at the NJ Veteran Cemetery, Arneytown.
