

John J. Benke, 85, of Old Bridge, died June 8, 2011 at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge. He had lived in Jersey City, moving to Linthicum Heights, MD for 35 years, before returning back to NJ, settling in Monroe.
Mr. Benke was a manager for CSX Railroad in Baltimore for 42 years retiring in 1985. He was a graduate of Seton Hall University, a Past President of the Holy Name Society, St. Patrick’s Church, Jersey City, and a Grand Marshall of the Holy Name Parade, Jersey City. He was also a member of the Retired Administrators of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (RABO Club), Past President Friendship Squares Square Dancing, Past President AARP, and longtime communicant of St. Philip Neri RC Church, all of Maryland.
Mr. Benke was predeceased by his mother, Marie Benke Kolar, and his wife, Dorothy Benke. He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Abate, brother, George Faliero, daughter and son in law, Judy & Frank Brady, his son and daughter in law, John & Jill Benke, and his daughter and son in law, Diane & David Zile. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Brady, Brian Brady, Adrienne Weir, Philip Benke, & Scott Benke, his great grandchildren, Jackson Brady & Benjamin Weir.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, Sunday, June 12, at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Rt. 9, Old Bridge, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered from St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge, on Monday, June 13 at 10:15am. Entombment will follow to Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
