

He was a retired clerk for the NY City Sanitation Department District 2 in Manhattan. Following his retirement, he worked for 16 years in the shipping & receiving dept. of Staten Island Hospital. He was in the US Navy in WWII, and member and past commander of the Gold Star Post #1365 American Legion, in Travis, Staten Island. He loved cooking, dancing, Atlantic City, and his family & friends.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Hayward, his brothers, Francis & George, and his sons, George & William. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janet Hunt Cahill; his daughter, Veronica and her husband Robert Gulli, of Staten Island; his sons, Robert Cahill, of Staten Island, and Patrick Cahill and his wife, Debby, of Pittston, Pa.; his stepsons, Glen Gabel, of Staten Island, and Scott Gabel and his wife Valarie, of Aliso Viejo, Ca. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 15 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, and his dear friends, Pam & Roger Hirsch.
Visitation will be Monday, February 14, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Rt. 9, Old Bridge, NJ. A Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 15 at 10am from the funeral home. Entombment will follow to Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, NJ.
