Byron S. Benson was born September 12, 1952, to Homer E. & Mary L. Benson. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School class of 1970. He was caricature artist for 7 years and then started his business Benson’s Painting and Paperhanging in 1977 for 47 years. In 1980 at a church camp in Crestwood K.Y. he met Connie Thompson, who he later married in August of 1982 in Parkersburg W.V. They resided near his boyhood home in Inglewood T.N. until 1991, then moved to Old Hickory T.N. for the next 33 years. In 1989, their son Byron Timothy Benson was born.
On March 14, 1977, at the age of 24, he came to Christ by the help of his grandmother’s prayers. His love and kindness to the elderly was the just the beginning to his nursing home ministry in the Madison and Donelson T.N. area. Shortly after the year 2000, he was feeling the call to be a minister of the church. He was a layman in various responsibilities of the Lord’s work after his conversion. Beginning in 2007 was his ministerial studies of theology. After 4 years, he graduated in July 2011 with an associate’s degree in theology ministries. His pastoral position began at the Bible Tabernacle in Nashville until his illness, August 15, 2024. His impact on our lives at work, church, the nursing home, children’s bus ministries, the neighborhood and his family were overwhelming. No one was a stranger after the first “Hello! How are you doing today?”
Byron was very devout in all aspects of his life and always said “When my work for Jesus is through, I am ready for Him to take me home to Heaven”
