Carlene Johnson, age 83, Old Hickory, TN, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, December 12, 2015, after a short illness with cancer. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother ("Nana"), sister, and friend. Carlene is survived by her children, Debbie (Bill) Davis and Steven (Lisa) Johnson; grandchildren, Jessica Davis, Jeffrey (Shaunna) Davis, and Hannah Johnson (Jordan) Carman; and her identical twin sister, Maxine Cox. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hilary Earl "Sonny" Johnson, Jr.; parents, Oscar Hickman Collier and Falby Sewell Collier; and brother, Rubert Lee Collier.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Carlene lived all of her nearly 84 years in the Nashville area. She graduated from West High School and went to work at Third National Bank, where she met Sonny. They married on September 2, 1953, and celebrated 51 wonderful years together. Of all her accomplishments, her greatest was the loving home she provided for her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Sonny joined Donelson First Baptist Church in the mid-fifties, where she remained an active member.
Carlene was quite the sports enthusiast. In September, she proudly began her 60th year as a member of the Nashville Women's Bowling Association. Being an avid bowler, she had a 600 series more than once in her bowling career, even once achieving a 700 series. She loved to play tennis and golf, as an almost 50-year member of Ravenwood Club in Hermitage. She enjoyed playing bridge and shopping, which she and her twin sister enjoyed together.
Two of the many things that Carlene was known for are her bright smile and caring and loving ways. She was a phenomenal lady with a heart of gold, who will be greatly missed and always remembered with much love by everyone who knew her.
Visitation with the family will be at Hermitage Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 15, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, December 16 from Noon to 2 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jack Barron officiating. Pall Bearers will be Bill Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Jordan Carman, Waldon Smotherman, Mike Cox, Jeffery Wilhite, Jared Wilhite, Jonathan Wilhite, and Michael Cox. Donations may be made to Alive Hospice.
