Carole Ann Daugherty, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 18, 2024. Carole was born on May 25th, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee. At the age of 9 months, Carole was adopted into the loving family of Theophilus and Mayme Crews Clayton and began her life with them in Lawrence County, Tennessee. She graduated from Lawrence County High School, finishing coursework in 3 years in 1957.
After graduation, Carole moved to Nashville, TN where she said her first job was with the phone company. She met and married her husband, Joseph Daugherty, in 1959. They welcomed their one precious child, daughter Pamela Ann Daugherty in 1960.
Carole worked for Lee Jeans in Nashville for almost 20 years and would later work as a "patient transporter" at Summit Medical Center for 10 years, (a role she enjoyed and took very seriously) retiring in December of 2009. She also worked for SkyChef for some time as well. After officially retiring, Carole worked as a caregiver in the homes of many friends and neighbors for the next several years. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized early in life. She worshipped with several congregations in the Nashville area, most recently being a faithful member of the Donelson Church of Christ since 2001.
She dearly loved her precious daughter Pamela, and two granddaughters, Caroline, and Cayla, and relished the time spent with them as they were growing up. She also enjoyed friendships with many in her congregation, neighborhood and the community and spent countless hours at church, in Bible studies, going to the movies, eating out, planning trips and relaxing in each other's homes. Carole will be remembered by her many friends and family as a good friend who willingly gave of herself and her resources to those in need.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Theophilus and Mayme Crews Clayton, her sister Barbara Clayton Ringelstein, her former husband, Joseph Daugherty, and daughter Pamela Daugherty Fitzhugh. She is survived by her granddaughters Caroline and Cayla Fitzhugh and son-in-law, Patrick Fitzhugh, along with cousins Lyonald Marston, Elliot Ray Clayton and Jim Clayton.
The family and close friends would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Charter Senior Living Community in Hermitage where she lived the last 2 years, and to the staff of Alive Hospice of Nashville, for lovingly caring for Carole over the last years, months, and days, and to all of Carole's dear friends who have loved her throughout her life.
