Charles “Charlie” Eugene Earles, 83, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away on January 22, 2025. He was born on June 20, 1941 in Leitchfield, Kentucky, to parents Wendell and Florence Earles. Over the years, he has resided in Owensboro, Kentucky and Destin, Florida.
Charlie graduated from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Carol Christy, and the two eventually married. Following graduation, he attended college and earned a master’s degree from Western Kentucky University. Over the years, he taught high school, sold life insurance, and owned The Earle Men’s Clothing Store in Owensboro, Kentucky. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the Thrifty Nickel Want Ads newspaper as president of the Eastern Division in Destin. With his dedication and guidance, he worked with the managers to grow the business and reach their goals.
In his spare time, Charlie always made time for playing golf, painting, and serving his church. His personality was to ensure everyone was happy and cared for. While in Destin, he helped start Path of Grace, a faith-based sober living for women who struggle with addiction to drugs and alcohol. He prioritized others and made them feel special and loved. His contagious smile, positivity, and love will be greatly missed. Charlie's belief in Jesus Christ was his foundation and guide throughout life. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol. He is survived by his son Chip; daughter-in-law Amy; grandsons Colbe, Chase (Anna) and Cameron; and great-grandson Everett.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Tuesday, January 28, in the Tulip Grove Room at Hermitage Funeral Home from 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM with hors d’oeuvres. An informal Celebration of Life service will begin at 4:30 PM with Rev. Carol Waller, officiating.
