Charles Bradley Myatt, age 88, of Hermitage, Tennessee, passed away on March 8, 2026, at 3:15 a.m. Beloved, cherished, devoted, hard-working, honest, humorous, and kind-hearted, Charles leaves behind a life marked by grit, warmth, and an easy way of making people feel like they mattered. After this introduction, he will be remembered as Chuck—just as so many knew him best.
Chuck grew up in Dickson, Tennessee, where his entrepreneurial spirit showed itself early. He was always trying to figure out ways to make money, and in high school he grew and maintained a watermelon patch—selling enough watermelons to buy his first used car. Even then, his heart for animals was already part of who he was. He loved all dogs, and growing up he had dogs named “Buster” and “YipYap.”
Chuck served in the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he stayed in the Nashville area selling insurance, and before long his drive and determination carried him into business ownership. He started his own check reporting company, with Service Merchandise as his biggest client.
Chuck and his wife, Sibyl, regularly visited Nashville-based theme park, Opryland U.S.A., where they played skee-ball and came home night after night with bags of stuffed teddy bears. After his office filled up with multiplied stuffed teddy bears, Chuck turned a simple, joyful habit into a new idea—opening a retail store in Donelson selling stuffed animals, “The Bear Broker.” The business was a big success.
After several years of selling stuffed animals, Chuck began dealing in refurbished telephones, with local hotels and motels as his biggest market. Later, with the onset of the cellular phone, he adapted once again—changing his business to selling cell phone cords. Through every shift and every new venture, he remained the same: hard-working, honest, and determined to make a living through his own effort.
Chuck never met a stranger. He called everyone “Doc,” and somehow it always sounded like a welcome. His love for animals ran deep—growing up on a farm, he even had a pet pig he carted around on a wagon. One of the most treasured stories of his life was rescuing a Black Labrador puppy he named “Radar,” whom he kept at his Donelson store. Chuck taught Radar to collect money for purchases and place it in the cash register drawer. When a news team showed up to cover the story, Chuck refused to let it be featured, afraid someone would come and take Radar from the store. That was Chuck—humorous and big-hearted, but also quietly protective of what he loved.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Rannie Myatt; his mother, Margaret Alvina (Stevens) Myatt; and his sisters, Marjorie Northcott, Nancy Myatt, and Brenda Harrington. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sibyl (Conatser) Myatt; his daughter, Valerie Burdick (Bill); his grandsons, William G. Burdick, III (Trey), Anthony K. Burdick, and Jason A. Burdick; his sisters, Julia Ann Morgan of Riceville, Tennessee, Betty Banks of Centerville, Tennessee, Janet Martin of Centerville, Tennessee, and Sue Banks of Bon Aqua, Tennessee; his brother, Jerry Myatt of Lebanon, Tennessee; and special niece, Cindy Northcott.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Cedar Creek Acute Care in Mount Juliet for their special care. They, alone, were able to convince Chuck to take his daily nourishment in his final days which sustained him.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends at Hermitage Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Immediately following, Chuck will be laid to rest in the Garden of Memories at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Myatt family at www.HermitageFH.com.
