It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clyde Wesley McMahan, who died in his sleep peacefully at the age of 81 on November 24, 2025. Born on January 23, 1944 to Robert and Lucille McMahan, Clyde lived a life marked by integrity, a deep love for his family, and a spirited enthusiasm for his favorite pastimes of fishing and gambling and an insatiable love for a bar candy and a coke (aka Dr. Pepper or Pepsi) Clyde drove a semi-truck most his life and retired in 2006 from USF Holland when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a proud Vietnam veteran of the United States Air Force and a devoted husband to Gerrie for 59 years.
Clyde found his greatest joys in two vices: the strategy of finding the perfect fishing hole and the excitement of hitting it big on the slot machines. An avid fisherman, he knew exactly where and when the fish were biting and the perfect jig to use. He spent countless hours sharing his knowledge of mechanics and fishing with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He was equally at home at the slot machines, where his competitive spirit and sharp wit were always on display. When he wasn’t enjoying his hobbies, he was tinkering at home out in the garage trying to fix things or getting his rod and reels ready to go for the next time he was free to do so.
Clyde will be remembered for his infectious smile, sarcastic humor and his ability to make everyone around him laugh. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever remain in our hearts. He was always willing to lend a hand and help out when needed not only for friends but for strangers in need as well.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gerrie, his children, Ken, Chuck (Casey), and Stephanie his grandchildren, Slater, Madi, Briley, and Kolton, his sisters, Wauline (Hilton), Juanita (Billy), Caroline (Jimmy), and Vanessa (Scott). and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille, his Grandmother Minnie, and his brother Bobby (Sherrie).
There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Monday, December 1, 2025 from 2:00 PM -5:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home. Graveside Service with full military honors will be Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 1:00pm at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, T 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN 37221.
