Eleanor Gassman, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on February 5, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones. She was a long-time resident of Gallatin Center for Rehabilitation and Healing. Her family wishes to thank everyone there for the love, support and care of our Dear Mother.
Eleanor was born in Buffalo, NY, and was the daughter of Matthew and Gertrude Schwab, sister of Gertrude (Louis) Meyer, and brother of Allen Schwab.
Survived by her Children Dawn Worley (Alfred – deceased), Richard Gassman (Lynn Govea), Jean Marie Hood, Janet Cairns, Julie Glinski (Michael), and Sister-in-law Jean Lubick (Larry). She is also survived by 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was a kind and loving Mother, who loved to cook, as well as travel. She made a mean Roast Pork and Dumplings, the best home-made noodles, and fantastic spaghetti sauce. Eleanor took all her kids to Hawaii, for the vacation of a lifetime. She went out of her way to make the holidays special for her 5 children, and passed down many traditions that are still honored by her family today. She enjoyed a good, cold beer, and loved to watch movies.
Eleanor loved baseball, and was a regular fixture at Spring Training games in Fort Lauderdale in the 1990’s. She also had a love for animals, most especially cats, including her cat Cloudy. And Pretty Girl, the resident cat at Gallatin Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, adopted our Mother as her care-giver, during her stay at the facility.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 24, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 449 North Water Avenue, Gallatin, TN.
