It is with great sadness that the family of Ellis Thomas Cannady announces his passing on August 2, 2024, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Tommy was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on January 17,1948 to Ellis and Mickey Cannady.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sherry Henderson. Tommy is survived by his son, Michael Cannady (Lisa); his granddaughter, Lorelei Welchance; grandson, Sean Cannady; sister, Diann Cannady; sister, Tina Hall; brother-in-law, Philip Henderson; and many nieces and nephews that loved him very much.
Tommy graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1966. He proudly served his country in the Marines for three years that included the Vietnam War. Tommy worked and retired from Ajax Turner/Budweiser. Once he retired, he and his friend, Scott Atkins, started a successful business. Tommy enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Greenbrier Historical Society, the Greenbrier Athletic Hall of Fame, and served on the Board or Directors of Small World Ministries.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Tommy’s honor to one of his favorite charities: Small World Ministries, Disabled Veterans of America (dav.org), or Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org). He also donated to several other charities monthly. He told me not to talk about this; however, I want you to know about his generous spirit!
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends for Tommy on Saturday, August 24th, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM with his Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM in the Tulip Grove Chapel at Hermitage Funeral Home with Deacon Robert Montini of St. Stephen's Catholic Community where Tommy was a member.
Fond memories, expressions of sympathy and words of comfort may be shared with the Cannady family at www.HermitageFH.com.
