Grant Feral Carruth, 79, was a proud Texan transplanted to Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his daughter, Mary Calehuff. He will be sorely missed by Janice, his wife of 52 years and his sons Kurt (Julie), Paul (Jill) and his son-in-law, Thaban Al-Hasnawi.. Eight grandchildren, Chandler, Cross, Jack, Zeva, Lela, Angel, Ray, Mo call him Gump, Ganpa or Monk. They will miss his encouragement to do the very best job at everything you do. Grant had two brothers, Ted and David (Leona) as well as 5 nieces. Grant was well known for his hard work and his willingness to help anyone.
He graduated from Texas Tech with honors and received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rice University. He was honored to be a member of Mensa. His career began with DuPont and proceeded to Owens Corning, where he was Research Director.
After a recent accident, plagued by various health issues, Grant finished the race of his life and went on victoriously to his reward. He was a faithful member of our Lord’s church and was passionate about spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. Grant loved God, his family and friends ,and this GREAT creation God made with LOTS of mountains for him to climb. His passion for climbing led him to the Tetons, Mt. Rainier, Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Aconcagua (Argentina), at last 15 14ers in Colorado, multiple trips to the Appalachian trail and a three week trek to Nepal where he made it to base camp at Mt. Everest.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, March 2nd at Hermitage Funeral Home . Interment to be held at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with family serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 am until time of service at Hermitage Funeral Home.
