Mr. Repass attended William King High School and Washington County Technical School in Abingdon with a focus on drafting as he sought to be an architect. After High school, he served in the US Air Force for four years, reaching the rank of Staff Sargent. Using the GI Bill, he attended Lees-McRae College in North Carolina and then later earning a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University. As things often go, architecture was not to be. However, he joined United States Gypsum Company as a region salesman in the 1960’s and worked for them for over 29 years. In his free time, he enjoyed being with his family, Vanderbilt sports, and reading the New York Times. Mr. Repass was a staunch democrat who cheered for the underdog. He will be remembered as a frugal man who could also be generous to his family and other causes like St. Jude, Veterans organizations and the American Legion.
Mr. Repass is preceded in death by his mother and father; and siblings James Herbert, William (Bill), Anna Margaret Neal, Sue “Toots” Williams, and Katherine (James) Glover.
He is survived by his former wife, Betty Joan Finley Repass; and their children: Thomas Repass, Cathy Morgan (former daughter-in-law), Timothy Repass, Andrea Garett (former daughter-in-law) and Joseph (Nancy) Repass; grandchildren Lauren (Marcus) Sumner, Chelsea Repass, Zackary Repass, Halle Grace Repass, and Carson Grant Repass; great- grandchildren Lincoln Thomas Sumner and Beckham Ballinger and a large extended family.
