Harriet Ann (Goodrich) Blackmon, 73, went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2017. She was born September 29, 1943. She graduated from Donelson High School in 1961, married her high school sweetheart, and hit the road to Alaska all in one week.
She worked for the Municipality of Anchorage for 34 years, starting with Anchorage Telephone Utility and later with Anchorage Water and Wastewater. She retired at age 55. She was no stranger to hard work and determination. She made many friends that became her family during those years.
She loved Alaska, choosing to raise her two children there. She eventually learned to enjoy clamming at the Gulch, dipnetting in the Kenai, and especially salmon fishing in the Little Susitna River. Not only did she enjoy her outdoor hobbies, she also tapped into her artistic side by creating stained glass master pieces, which she loved. She gifted many of these stained glass creations to family and friends.
Her independent spirit grew and she felt very at home in Alaska for 50+ years. Her ability to love ALL and give EVERYTHING was an example to those who knew her, and even those who didn’t. She believed and lived out… “once you were family, you were always family.”
Her faith was private and intimate… expressed more comfortably through actions rather than words. She was often heard saying, “when the man upstairs is ready for me, I am ready!” She was ready, we were not.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents James “Houston” Goodrich / Delia (Demonbreun) Goodrich, and William E. Blackmon Jr. (father of her two children). She is survived in death by her brother, James Goodrich Jr. (Cathy); Sister-in-laws: Carol Carlson (Richard), Anne Gillenwater (Steve), Tricia Anderson (Ross); brother-in-law, Dick Blackmon (Trish); Daughter, Diane Boulogne (Pierre); Son, Jim Blackmon (Patience); Grandchildren, Renae Klope (Braden), Devin Boulogne, Will Blackmon, Ginger Walker, and Natalie Walker; Second husband; Ralph Beaulieu and his children, Alison, Greg, and Andrew; along with many nieces and nephews.
