

Mary M. Griffin, 79, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Mary was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 21, 1943, to parents Julian Belton and Mary Louise Murrah. After the birth of Mary, the Murrah household was complete with Shirley, who was ten years Mary’s senior. They were a close-knit family and enjoyed spending quality time together. From birth, Mary was known as Betty, which was short for her middle name Elizabeth.
After graduating from Bartlett High School in 1961, Betty became a stewardess for American Airlines and was relocated to Nashville. Very soon after moving to Nashville, she met Herman (Sonny) Griffin. They married six months later, and, together, they established their home in Mount Juliet, TN. raising their daughters, Sandi and Julie.
In the early 80s, Betty began her new career managing their family business. However, family and church were her top main priorities. She was a longtime member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church where she was an elder. Betty had a deep love for Jesus and always put others before herself. Her generosity and kindness were indescribable.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Julian Belton Murrah; her mother, Mary Louise (Brigance) Murrah; her sister, Shirley Taylor; her daughter, Julie Dawn Griffin; and two granddaughters, Courtney Heaton and Whitney Jackson.
Mary is survived by her husband and partner in life of 56 years, Herman W. Griffin; daughter, Sandi Camacho; granddaughter, Taylor Jackson; granddaughter, Alexa Camacho; grandson, Bryce Camacho; niece, Lynn Dodson (David) of Friendswood, TX; nephew, Jeff Taylor (Lisa) of Alpharetta, GA; and her canine companion and best friend, Biscuit.
Herman W. Griffin Jr., 82, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022. Herman was born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 18, 1940, to parents Herman W. Griffin Sr. and Mame Barksdale. Being a beautiful sunny day, his aunt gave him the nickname Sonny, which remained throughout his life.
After graduating from Montgomery Bell Academy, Sonny served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He had a great love for his country. After an honorable discharge, he was accepted into Vanderbilt University Engineering School. While pursuing his degree, he met Mary (Betty) the love of his life. The two were married six months later establishing their home in Mount Juliet, TN, raising their two daughters, Sandi and Julie.
In the early 80s, Betty and Sonny began a sheet metal business with a colleague and longtime friend, Lance Cantrell. Betty and Sonny worked well as a team and enjoyed their time together. Outside of work, they enjoyed traveling. They both loved tropical vacations, however, the ocean held a special place in Sonny's heart. In fact, deep sea fishing, where he made many friends, was his favorite pastime.
Sonny is preceded in death by his wife and partner of life for 56 years, Mary Griffin; his father, Herman Whitney Griffin Sr.; his mother, Mamie Barksdale; his daughter, Julie Dawn Griffin; and two granddaughters, Courtney Heaton and Whitney Jackson.
Sonny is survived by his daughter, Sandi Camacho; granddaughter, Taylor Jackson; granddaughter, Alexa Camacho; grandson, Bryce Camacho; niece, Lynn Dodson (David) of Friendswood, TX and nephew, Jeff Taylor (Lisa) of Alpharetta, GA.
A celebration of life graveside service for Herman W. & Mary M. will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 10:30 AM at - Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, Tennessee with a reception to follow in the Funeral Home.
