Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat Davenport, daughter, Kim Davenport of Brentwood, Tennessee; son, Brian (Holly) Davenport of Mt. Juliet; 2 grandchildren, Arlo & Ella Davenport; father-in-law, Bruce Stringer of Portland; brother-in-laws, Ricky (Peggy) Stringer of Portland, Ronald Stinger of Portland
A career state employee with 35 yrs service. He began his career in state government in 1970, as accountant and in 1978 was named assistant Chief of Fiscal Services for the Department of Employment Security. In 1981, he was named the departments first director of Internal Audit. In 1983 Jim was appointed Assistant Commissioner for Fiscal and Systems. In 1992 Jim was appointed Commissioner of Employment Security. Finishing his career with the Tennessee State Legislature as Fiscal Review Director.
