James Preston Poteete

James Preston Poteete, a resident of Mt Juliet, Tennessee, passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on January 10, 1934, Preston lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and love.

Preceded in death by his mother Martha Oakley.

Preston is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Gail Poteete; children Amber (Tony) Rankin, Alex (Debbie) Poteete; grandchildren Andrew (Christina) Rankin, Caleb (MaryAlice) Rankin, Katelin (Landon) Maples; great grandchildren Preston Rankin and Kaylee Rankin.

Preston retired from NES, marking a distinguished career. He was a man who deeply loved his wife, children, and grandchildren, always cherishing his family above all else.

In his personal time, Preston collected and repaired clocks. He was a wonderful caretaker for his wife, Gail, and enjoyed fishing, beekeeping, and woodworking.

A lifelong member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Preston served as a Deacon, demonstrating his commitment to his faith and community.

Preston will be remembered as a hard worker and a skilled craftsman who loved life. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 3:00pm ~ 7:00pm at Hermitage Funeral Home 535 Shute Ln Old Hickory TN 37138 and Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 12:00pm ~ 1:00pm with a Funeral Service at 1:00pm at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church located at 515 Long Hollow Pike, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. The burial will immediately follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens 535 Shute Ln Old Hickory TN 37138

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, located at 515 Long Hollow Pike, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.

Elder Doyle Hurst will be conducting the Funeral Service at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.

Pallbearers include Andrew Rankin, Caleb Rankin, Landon Maples, Preston Rankin, Winston Patton, David Neighbors, Eddie Huff.

Honorary Pallbearers include his Hardee’s Coffee Club.
