James was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Rosemary Stanley. He is survived by his sister, Robin (Iglahlig); brothers John (Jeanie) and Tom (Tina); nephews and nieces Derrick Armand, Daniel Ferrell, Rachel Stanley, Matt Stanley, Elizabeth Stanley, and Savannah Stanley.
James served District 14 for 16 years as a Metro Nashville Councilman. He was responsible for saving Donelson Middle School among his many accomplishments. Working with Mayor Phil Bredesen, he obtained funding to rebuild and renovate the existing middle school and construct a new Hickman Elementary School on the same campus.
James cared deeply for his constituents and always put their needs first, sometimes to the detriment of his own career.
There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate the life of James Stanley in the Tulip Grove Room at Hermitage Funeral Home on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Stanley family by selecting "Add a Memory" at the bottom of this page.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alive Hospice of Nashville (https://www.alivehospice.org) or Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org).
