

Funeral services for Janette Elizabeth Seaborn Gleaves, age 95, will be held Sunday, Nov 19, at 2:00 pm at Hermitage Memorial Funeral Home, with Bro Ron Hardeman officiating. Burial will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-2 pm, prior to the service. Mrs Gleaves passed away peacefully at her home on November 15, 2017.
Mrs Gleaves was born in Hermitage, TN on May 2, 1922 to the late Robert Ethlebert Seaborn and Sarah Lainey Olds Seaborn, in the family home on Old Hickory Blvd, the first of only two houses that she lived in during her 95 years.
She graduated from Donelson High School and Draughn’s Business College. She worked for Dean Marble Company, Fred Wright Construction Company, and retired from the United States Postal Service , as the secretary to the Post Master General of the Nashville Post Office.
She was a long-time member of Baker’s Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 67 consecutive years. She enjoyed working in her flowers, and doing handwork, especially knitting Christmas stockings for family and friends. She and her husband Ray also helped to care for members of their extended families.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of almost 68 years, Oscar Ray Gleaves, Sr, who died in 2009, a son and daughter-in-law, Oscar Ray and Sherry Blittle Gleaves Jr, a great granddaughter, Clara Lucile Suiter, 2 brothers and wives, Harley and Laura Seaborn, William Madison (Buster) and Mary Elizabeth Seaborn, 4 sisters and husbands, Mary Lou and Houston Blackwell, Virgie and Dave Harrison, Robbie and M C Whitworth, and Alma Genevieve (Gene) and Peter Danish, a sister-in-law and husband, Bill (Dean) Gleaves Duncan, and a brother-in-law and wife, Guy Thomas (Claudia) Gleaves.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Dwight Suiter of Cookeville, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Thomas (Tom) and Debbie Gleaves Sr of Mt Juliet TN; 9 grandchildren and spouses; Melissa (Kevin) Gleaves Williams, Brian Gleaves, Heath (Lisa) Suiter, Becca (Scott) Suiter Wilson, Ryon (Sarah) Suiter, Robert Thomas (Christine) Gleaves Jr, and Katie, Destiny, and Taran Gleaves; and 14 great grandchildren; Olivia, Caleb, Rain, Sage, Marin, Jude, Eli, Jonah, Kenan, Leah Beth, Smith, Charlie, Quinn, and Duncan.
