Johnny "Lewis" Claud Sr., age 82, of Nashville, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2024. He was born on July 27, 1941 in Only, TN in Hickman County to his parents Emmett and Elise Turner Claud who preceded him in death.
Lewis and his family moved to Nashville when he was a child because his father found employment with the Rogers Caldwell Estate now known as the Ellington Agricultural Center. He attended David Lipscomb High School graduating in 1959. The next year, 1960, he met and married the love of his life Ruth Stewart. He began his career as a typesetter for the Nashville Banner newspaper. He proudly served his industry as President of the Typographical Union.
Once the newspaper industry transitioned to computerized typesetting, he left the industry and begin working with small engine repair, where he worked for local companies including J C Penny, Toro and John Deere. In 1983, he went to work for Peterbilt, Inc on the assembly line and then transferred to the maintenance department where he retired after 20 plus years of service.
Lewis and Ruth enjoyed camping with close friends, traveling, and spending time with family. They were members of Center Chapel Church of Christ. Lewis was gentle and kind. He was a simple man with a heart of gold. He was steady, constant, calm and faithful. Lewis will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Elise Claud, his brothers Ray (Margaret) Claud, and Harold (Ruby) Claud, his sister Ruth (Jimmy) Reece, son-in-law Steve Fisher, by his special friends Jimmy and Jean Eanes and his beloved wife of 55 years Ruth Stewart Claud who went to be with the Lord in 2016. He is survived by his son Johnny L. Claud Jr.; daughter Cheryl Fisher, grandchildren Kenny Claud, Katie Claud, Megan (Matthew) Burke, Mallory (Ken) Byrd and Matt (Morgan) Fisher and by his great grandchildren, Ari & Elijah Byrd, Dean Brisco, Hazel Burke and Mavis Burke.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends for Lewis on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, Old Hickory, TN. His Celebration of Life service will be on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM, in the Tulip Grove Chapel at Hermitage Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 10 am until service time. His final resting place will be in the Garden of Devotion at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, Old Hickory, TN.
Pallbearers will be Jason Reese, Ray Claud, Russell "Rusty" Patterson, John Patterson, Frank (Kippy) Hyde Jr., Eddie Hyde, Sean Speight and Matthew Burke. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Colonial Circle Family.
