COWAN, Lillie Dessie Smith - Age 90 of Old Hickory, TN passed away December 24, 2010. Born in LaJunta, Colorado September 22, 1920 to Elijah Smith and Sarah Winfree Smith. She moved to Old Hickory in 1947 at the age of 27 to work for DuPont. She worked 52 & a half years for DuPont, Genesco and the Baptist Sunday School Board (LifeWay) respectively. Preceded in death by her parents and former husband, George Cowan. She is survived by daughters, Linda Spain, Diane Rivers and a grandson who was the joy of her life, Chris Rivers. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Hermitage Funeral Home. The funeral service will be performed by Rev. David Tiller at 2 pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2010 in Hermitage Chapel. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. William Baucom, III, and Dr. Timothy Kreth. Active pallbearers will be Bill Butler, Norm Finney, Richard Copelin, Jimmy Hodge, Larry Cannon and Michael Marsh.
