

LUCY NEELEY ADAMS passed from her earthly journey to her heavenly journey on August 11, 2025. She was born on April 24, 1934, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Wadsworth Burnside Neeley and Louise Bennett Neeley. She was also preceded in death by a sister Margaret Neeley Fenner. She attended Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, high school. Her college days were spent at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, and Scarritt College in Nashville, Tennessee, where she received her B.A. degree in Christian Education.
Woody and Lucy met as college students at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, in 1953. They had two years of courtship and then married in the Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska on June 10,1955. They have shared a devoted and wonderful marriage for 70 years. Their marriage has been blessed by four children, John (Dawn), Scott (Kathy), Ben (Lisa) and Rebekah Joy. They have been blessed with 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Woody, being a United Methodist Minister, led to serving together in 13 churches: at Dodson Chapel, Annie Morrison Smith, Waynesboro, Cross Plains, Lawrenceburg, Winchester, Paris, Huntingdon, Andrew Price, Murfreesboro and Cookeville. In North Carolina they served at Long's Chapel UMC and Crabtree.
Woody and Lucy also served as missionaries in Korea, at Navajo Methodist Mission in New Mexico and Sue Bennett College in Kentucky.
She was a lover of music and writing. One of her happiest moments was seeing a book she had published in 2000 entitled 52 HYMN STORY DEVOTIONS. Lucy and Woody always did ministry together as devoted husband and wife and followers of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The family is welcoming guests on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Hermitage Gardens Funeral Home from 5pm-8pm for visitation. They are located at 535 Shute Lane in Old Hickory, TN. Please join us for her celebration of life on Saturday afternoon at 2pm, August 16th, at Hermitage United Methodist Church located at 205 Belinda Drive in Hermitage, TN.
