Sassy…Feisty…Vibrant…Loving…Selfless… these 5 words that only begin to touch the surface when describing the woman, the mother, the grandmother, the legend, who was lovingly referred to for most of her life fondly as “Granny Pony”.
The beautiful matriarch of our family was born on June 9, 1937 in West Virginia. She left this world, welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on February 28, 2017. Her 79 years were not nearly enough for her devoted family. However, her family is humbly grateful to God for allowing them to share in the life of this one-of-a-kind legend. Margaret was born to Joseph and Betsy Hotsinpiller who preceded her in death, as well as 10 of her brothers and sisters: William Russell, Mary Ellen, Ruby Jean, Joseph Norman, John Thomas, Allen Ray, Arthur Leroy, James Daniel, Patty Esther, and Shirley Faye.
She is survived by her devoted children, Sherry Robinson, Theresa (Fred) Eurton, Betty Jo O’Kelley, Charles (Becky) Ervin, Bobby Ervin, Angie (Will) Cox, and Cindy Copeland; her loving grandchildren: Robby Yates, David Yates, Misty Creswell, Shannon Monticello, Amber Eurton, Trevor Hiltner, Joshua Eurton, Matthew Ervin, Katie Ervin, Brandon Ervin, , Brianna Hale, Hannah Cox, Kourtney Wingert, Stacey Smithson, Gage Belt, and Maddie Mae Belt; her 19 great grandchildren: Tyler Yates, Jadan Yates, Samantha Payne, Kevin Creswell, Trent Payne, Justin Monticello, Jacob Monticello, Jared Monticello, AJ Eurton, Jamie Smith, Zach Smithson, Austin Vaughn, Jaxson Vaughn, Bailey Vaughn, Max Wingert, Aaron Wingert, Sarrah Wingert, Troy Heath Ervin, and Shawn Yates. She is also survived by two sisters, Edna Pearl Anderson and Naomi Buckner.
She lived her early years in Mayland and Monterey, Tennessee before settling in Nashville for the remainder of her life. She was an amazing cook, and spent the majority of her professional life serving as a cook for restaurants, nursing homes, and school cafeterias. She was famous for her sausage and biscuits with gravy, dressing, and the family tradition of homemade dumplings on Thanksgiving Day.
She loved spending time with her family above anything else in the world. She enjoyed gambling, playing cards, taking her chances on the lottery, and watching her favorite TV show The Young & The Restless. Her family will miss her infectious smile, her hearty laugh, her generous spirit, her sage advice, her bursting into chords of The Long Black Veil and Froggy Went A Courtin’.
Margaret Louise was someone who used her life as a means to model those traits that she held most dear to her heart, family devotion above all, laughter through tears, strength despite circumstances, and to love without fail.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 pm on Friday evening March 3rd and again on Saturday from 9 until 11 am. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday in Hermitage Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Chandra Leslie officiating.
