Mary M. Griffin, 79, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Mary was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 21, 1943, to parents Julian Belton and Mary Louise Murrah. After the birth of Mary, the Murrah household was complete with Shirley, who was ten years Mary’s senior. They were a close-knit family and enjoyed rewarding times together. Mary was known as Betty, which was short for her middle name Elizabeth.
In 1965, Betty became a stewardess for American Airlines. After moving to Nashville from Memphis, she met Herman (Sonny) Griffin. They married six months later, and, together, they established their home in Mount Juliet, TN raising their daughters, Sandi and Julie. Betty and Sonny maintained a close bond within their family.
For thirty-five years, Betty managed the office at their family business, but she prioritized her privilege as a homemaker first and foremost. Cooking was one of her favorite things, and she loved to try new recipes. Her family especially remembers her Spinach Lasagna. Family gatherings and any reason to be together were special for Betty, especially the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Spring was her favorite season as she loved the beautiful flowers. Betty and Sonny shared a genuine love for the beach and were blessed to spend quality time in their vacation homes located in the Florida panhandle.
Betty was a quiet person, content spending time in her own home. However, when there was a need at her church, she was there to help get the job done. She had been a loyal member of the Hermitage Presbyterian Church for forty-eight years, where she was an elder.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Julian Belton Murrah; her mother, Mary Louise (Brigance) Murrah; her sister, Shirley Taylor; brother-in-law, James Taylor; her daughter, Julie Dawn Griffin; and two granddaughters, Courtney Heaton and Whitney Jackson.
Mary is survived by her husband and partner in life of 56 years, Herman W. Griffin; daughter, Sandi Camacho; granddaughter, Taylor Jackson; granddaughter, Alexa Camacho; grandson, Bryce Camacho; niece, Lynn Dodson (David) of Friendswood, TX; nephew, Jeff Taylor (Lisa) of Alpharetta, GA; and her canine companion and best friend, Biscuit.
