

Mary Ann “Miss Ann” Thompson, 96, of Hermitage, Tennessee, crossed over to her eternal home on January 11, 2025. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 2, 1928, to parents, Claude and Orie Porterfield.
Mary Ann was raised in Nashville and graduated from Cohn High School. When she was younger, she played the accordion and took courses in public speaking. On September 17, 1948, Mary Ann married the love of her life, James Powell Thompson. They were married for fifty-four years until he passed in 2002. She worked as the Head Teller at Fidelity Federal for twenty-five years and was an active member of Bakers Grove Baptist Church in Mount Juliet, Tennessee.
Mary Ann was a gracious, southern lady with a beautiful smile. She was kind to everyone and loved her family dearly. She was very generous with her time and hospitality and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her father, Claude Thomas Porterfield; her mother, Orie (Lewis) Porterfield; sister, Jennie Belle Berlin (Richard); brother, Claude Thomas “CT” Porterfield (Brooksey); sister, Robbie Jean Haynes (Howard); and niece, Patricia Haynes.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Donna Carol Ramsey (Charles) and Marilynn Kay Decker (Donald); grandson, Matthew Jason Markham; step-grandson, Donald Decker, Jr. (Barbara); great grandsons Barrett Markham, Brannigan Markham, Brady Markham; step-great granddaughters, Linley Decker and Caroline Decker; niece, Patricia Ward (Matthew); and nephew, Dan Howard Haynes.
There will be a graveside service for “Miss Ann” on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 2:45 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee. Donations may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to Bakers Grove Baptist Church, 3562 Earhart Road, Mount Juliet, TN 37122. Arrangements are being handled by Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Old Hickory, TN.
