Born December 30, 1929, our mother’s life began – forever the adventurer. Pat and her first husband Jesse D. Watson moved to California where she found freedom and the ability to be herself. Always so beautiful, poised, and elegant (with a hint of mischief), she knew that she wanted to help people but struggled to find how.
Handwriting analysis became her reason for being after defiance to all she had been taught exploded in the 70’s. Divorce, yoga and spirituality lead her to the study of graphology. On national and local TV, in newspapers, at festivals, all over Europe, and even on a plane-she never turned down a chance to read someone’s writing. She gave people the strength to love themselves, succeed-and even sometimes survive-after every analysis.
Her never ending sense of adventure spilled her into a life of passion and love that fuels romance novels. The kind so hot and heavy that eventually came to make two hardcore daughters of the 60’s blush and beam with pride. A Swede taught her the length of time together could never determine the equality of that love. He also taught her to never give up on finding the one meant for her – to be her forever love. Then she found her cowboy. Wow, did she love that man. Anyone could see the sparks they ignited . . . Their adventures.
While handwriting gave her a way to give others validation and hope for their future, her accordion playing was something else to behold. It was a sight to see such an elegant woman strapping on a big, shiny instrument to play for anyone nearby willing to watch and listen-which believe us, was everyone.
Joy is what we feel when we remember our mother. No one ever forgot her that received one of her handwriting analyses or saw her play the accordion. Everyone enjoyed the time they had with her.
On December 24, 2018, Patricia Roy Dutra cast off to her next adventure. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband ‘The Cowboy’ Lawrence Dutra and her parents. Patricia is survived by her daughters Cindy Watson Brockette, Mt. Juliet; Julie Holloway (Gaylon) Mt. Juliet; stepdaughter Rosemary West (John) California; stepson Ronald Dutra (Adalia) Tennessee; and granddaughters Rikki Finch and Haley Burnett.
This summarized article barely touches our mother’s remarkable story. A celebration of the life of Patricia Roy Dutra will be held at a later date to honor her extraordinary adventures.
We would like to thank Alive Hospice for all of the assistance they provided to our beloved Patricia. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
