

WELCH, Shirley Ruth – age 72 of Old Hickory, Tennessee, on August 25, 2010 from injuries sustained in a fall in her home in April. A graduated of Dupont High School and Middle Tennessee State University, Shirley began a fifty-year career in the music publishing business with Hubert Long Enterprises in Nashville, and had just retired this past February after more than forty years with Ray Stevens Music/Ahab Music in Nashville. She was a lifelong member of the Old Hickory Country Club. Preceded in death by her parents, Clarice B. “Peck” Welch and Virginia Fox Welch, of Old Hickory; her maternal aunts and uncles, Ruth Fox McMahon, Horace Lee McMahon, Francis Fox Adams and Mike Adams, all of Cornersville; her paternal aunt and uncle, Dewey Welch and Vera Welch, of Columbia, and her sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Hyde Welch and Betty Haralson Welch, both originally of Old Hickory. She is survived by her brothers, Allan F. Welch and Thomas H. Welch, both of Old Hickory; six nieces and nephews, Lisa Welch Silbar (Jeff) of Studio City, California; Scott H. Welch (Gwen) of Hendersonville, Laura Welch Butcher (Todd), of Roswell, Georgia, Adam H. Welch (Christy), of Clarksville, Gregory F. Welch (Cindy), of Franklin and Neil Welch, of Old Hickory; nine great-nieces and great-nephews, Garrett Silbar and Natalie Silbar, of Studio City, California; Caroline Welch and Jay Welch of Hendersonville; Hayden Welch and Evan Welch of Clarksville, Christopher Butcher of Atlanta, Georgia; and Hayley Welch and Gregory Welch of Franklin; first cousins Jody McMahon of Cornersville, Glenda McMahon Tate of Lewisburg; Jimmy McMahon of Cornersville, Nancy McCullough of Lewisburg; and many friends and neighbors. Shirley will be remembered for her generosity, her sharp wit and her fierce loyalty to friends and family. The Welch family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Skyline Medical Center, Vanco Manor, and Mt. Juliet Health Care Center, and Shirley’s many friends and classmates who wrote and visited her these past few months. Funeral services will be held at Hermitage Funeral Home on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, Shirley will be laid to rest beside her parents at Beechwood Cemetery in Cornersville. Honorary Pallbearers: Ray Stevens, Dot Hindman, Allen Sullivan, Jerry Bradley, Lang Martine, Harry Warner, Norro Wilson, Don Light, Anne Gillespie, and Nina Sivek. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in memory of Shirley to one of the following: Old Hickory United Methodist Church, the T. J. Martel Foundation, or The American Red Cross.
