

WATERBURY, Conn. – Catherine F. (Dolan) Patrell, 92, of St. Petersburg, FL., died Monday, August 15, in the VITUS unit of St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. A long-time resident of Old Lyme, CT, Kay was the beloved wife of Oliver L. Patrell III for 65 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved people and had a great zest for life.
She is survived by her husband Oliver and her brother, Joseph A. Dolan, of Anna Maria Island, FL, and by her five children and their spouses: Ms. Mel Patrell Furman (Boris Furman) of Evanston, IL; Kathleen (David) Goulet of Watertown, CT, Christopher (Sue) Patrell, of Cheshire, CT; Michael (Liz) Patrell, of Wallingford, CT; and Meg (Michael) Bendzinski of Hebron, CT. Kay is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Noah, Ezra, Emma, and Jonah Furman; Jonathan, Daniel, and Matthew Goulet; Jessica Katz and Jackie and Catherine Patrell; Patrick Patrell; and David and Christine Bendzinski. Kay was also great-grandmother to Clara and Lincoln Goulet and Max Katz.
Kay was born July 30, 1924, in Central Falls, RI to Joseph Aloysius Dolan and Nora Dolan, and grew up in a family of nine children. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Ray Dolan, and five sisters, Agnes Richard, Rita Gregory, Anna McKenna, Eleanor Daly, and Peg Hayman.
Kay was a devoted wife and mother who lived in various communities including West Hartford and Fairfield CT, where she raised her five children, and later in Old Lyme CT, New York City, West Chester PA, and St. Petersburg, FL, making many friends in each place she lived due to her easygoing manner and great sense of humor. She was a devout Catholic and was active in the Church over many years. Kay and Ollie loved to entertain their many friends, and their New Year’s Day open house was an institution for half a century. Kay was a very avid reader and traveled extensively with her husband.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 4 until 7 PM at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11 AM in Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme. Interment will follow in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme.
