

Debbie grew up in Oradell and Englewood, NJ. She graduated from The Ethel Walker School, 1948 and attended Smith College and earned her B.A. degree from Manhattanville College. In 1951, she married S. Spencer (“Bud”) Scott, Jr. (who predeceased her in 2002). She served as Board Chair of The Ethel Walker School (CT), the Dynamy Program (MA), the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School (ME) and CORO (NY), as well as serving on the national boards of Outward Bound and CORO. In 2008, she received the prestigious “Kurt Hahn Award” from the directors of Outward Board for outstanding service to the Outward Bound community and was honored in 2007 by CORO (NY) with the “Lewis Rudin Award”.
The daughter of the late Irene Richardson and John H. Flagg of Englewood, NJ, she is survived by her brothers Dr. Stephen V Flagg of Hamden, CT and Thomas R. Flagg of Reading, CT, her children, Dr. Samuel Spencer Scott, III of Cumberland Foreside, ME, Steven Flagg Scott of Lyme, CT and Suzette V.S. Hearn of Ft. Washington, PA, her eight grandchildren Carter Scott, Story Miraldi and S. Spencer Scott IV, Cameron and Caroline Scott and George, Louise and James Hearn and two great grandchildren, Oliver Scott and Alex Miraldi--all of whom loved her and were inspired by her. Her life was a light that burned with intensity and will forever serve as a guide to those she left behind.
Services Saturday, April 20, at 1:00 PM, at the First Congregational Church, 2 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, CT. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to CORO (NY) or the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School.
