Evelyn was born on January 9, 1943, in Bronx, New York, the daughter of James S. McInerney, Sr., and Evelyn Gerth McInerney. She graduated Saint Anslem’s College with a nursing degree and spent the beginning of her career as a public health nurse in New York. Eventually, Evelyn transitioned to become a teaching aide for multiple-handicapped students in the Monroe Public School System.
Known to family and close friends as Evie, she loved spending time at Rogers Lake, painting, crafting, and enjoying her six grandchildren. Evie was the original generous “Lake Lady” for all her great nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She spent countless hours enjoying sunset cruises, parties under the ‘la Bamba’ tent, and hanging out on the lower patio.
Evelyn is survived by her children Jennifer Singleton of Old Lyme, John (Jay) Roman and his wife Allison of Trumbull, and Christopher Roman of Branford; grandchildren Emma and Abigail Singleton, Michael and Lyla Roman, Stella and Tessa Roman; and sister-in-law Eileen McInerney of Old Lyme. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her brother James S. McInerney, Jr.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bridebrook Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Niantic, CT for the care and comfort. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 9th at 11am in Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme, CT 06371. A celebration of her life will immediately follow in the church hall.
