

Florence Katherine Hurley, 79, wife of Richard J. Hurley, of Niantic and formerly of Old Lyme, passed away Saturday morning after a brief illness. Florence was born to Howard and Florence Wakeley in Bridgeport, CT on June 23, 1935.
She was the wife of Richard Hurley for nearly 60 years, whom she married on February 4th, 1956 in Bridgeport, CT. Florence is survived by her devoted husband Richard, her daughter Linda and husband Robert Brophy of Essex, her son Michael and his wife Julie Hurley of Waterford. She has four grandchildren she deeply cherished, Allison, Megan, Sean and Claire. Florence has three siblings, Howard Wakeley and her sisters Bernice Leonetti and Shirley King.
Florence attended Fairfield University studying banking and business. She was employed by Essex Savings Bank in Old Lyme for over 20 years, retiring as branch manager. She greatly enjoyed volunteering for Care & Share of East Lyme, the Ladies Auxiliary of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, the LOL Chamber of Commerce, the Democratic Party, and the Waterford Women's Club.
Florence was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Spending time with her family and friends gave her great joy. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events, as well as walking, baking and reading. Florence loved to travel and recently spent a week in Paris with her daughter and two granddaughters.
