A devoted wife and mother, Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Barry Bloom, her two daughters, Catherine Bloom (Peter Dromgoole) of Maine and Joanna Bloom (Thomas Orr) of Oregon, her son, Brian Bloom (Michele Bloom, Coty and Tabitha Maher) of Connecticut, a granddaughter Lucia Orr, her sister Patricia DeBree of Vermont, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Ensign of Connecticut. She is predeceased by three brothers, William H. Ensign, Jr., John Banker Ensign, and Robert W Ensign, Sr.
Joan attended The Marymount School in New York where she was awarded a bachelor of science degree. She loved music and was both an enthusiastic gardener and inspirational cook. She had a deep affinity for early music, and was a member of the Eastern Connecticut Recorder Society. Joan was an accomplished artist with an uncompromising aesthetic. Her work spanned genres from drawing and photography to icon painting. She was an active member of Lyme’s local arts and crafts community. Her artistic legacy, however, may be the beautiful home she cultivated over the decades in Lyme, Ct. It was here that she and Barry found profound peace.
.
Joan was a dedicated and valued member of the Christ the King Church where she created banners, icons, floral arrangements and mosaic work for their baptismal font.
