

Shelby, also known as Shel or T.T., was born on March 27, 1939 in New York, New York, the daughter of John and Anna (Greenway) Griswold.
She was a graduate of Greenwich Country Day School, The Foxcroft School and Traphagen School of Fashion. After her schooling, she spent time living in Florence, Italy.
Shelby was the wife of the late Peter L. Schavoir. They lived for many years in Pound Ridge, NY, summering in Old Lyme. They spent several years living in Tokyo, Japan before they retired to Savannah, GA and Old Lyme.
At her passing, words mentioned to describe her included elegant, a treasure, grace and warmth, lovely and kind. She loved to collect things on her extensive travels around the world as well as on her walks outdoors… shells, sea glass, leaves, pinecones, moss, feathers, acorns and more. She was a great lover of music, especially classical, and was a supporter of the Savanah Music Festival.
Mrs. Schavoir is survived by her daughter Susanna Schavoir of Ridgefield, CT and son Frederick Schavoir of Old Lyme; granddaughter Ana Tresnan and her husband Liam; grandson Peter, his wife Jordan and their son Frederick; grandson Samuel; sister and brother in law Ursula and Thomas LaMotte; brother and sister in law John and Marilyn Griswold; brother and sister in law Evan Griswold and Emily Fisher; brother and sister in law Edward and Mary Griswold; brother Charley Griswold and many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and dog Penelope.
A Memorial Service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, your local PBS or Connecticut Public Broadcasting, or Plan International USA.
