Virginia Catherine Young

Virginia C. Young peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 10, 2015, 7 days short of her 93 birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia born in Cromwell, CT on April 17, 1922 is survived by her three sons, Elmer and his wife Judy,( who gave up their winters in Florida to take care of her especially Judy who treated her with loving care as though she was her own Mother) Paul, John and his wife Nancy. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Elmer III and his wife Diane and Audrey, Three great grandchildren Tyler, Brenden and Haley. Virginia’s loving husband of 63 years, Elmer preceded her. She is also survived by several nieces Joann Arcata, Diane Lowderback and her husband Gary and Carol Arcata and a nephew Jay Arcata, a big thank you to Carol Arcata who spent a lot of time with Virginia and brought a big smile to her face with every visit, Jay Arcata who was always in her thoughts and Virginia enjoy visiting and bring Zeppoli’s to the Arcata family. Another important person in her life was Vickie Crafa who came to visit her often and Virginia looked forward to her weekly phone calls. Virginia lived in Hartford before moving to Old Lyme, CT at Hawks Nest Beach in 1976. She loved to cook and enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, she loved having family and friends come to her house and cook for them. Her tomato sauce was legendary as were her hot peppers. The family would also like to thank all those friends who came to visit her as her health began to decline, those visits perked her up and she loved the “donuts”. The family would like to especially thank Kathy Wagner and Joan Tomes for their loving care for Virginia. Kathy and Virginia became best of friends during these past 4 years and that relationship certainly extended her quality of life. The family would also like to thank the staff of Hospice who helped Virginia make the transition this past month.
