Barbara Ignatowich, 82, Beloved wife of the late Walter, and daughter of Charles and Louise Berch. She leaves behind her two sons William and James Ignatowich and their families, (Bill’s wife Jill and their children Michael, Steven and Daniel and Jim’s wife Marissa and their children James, Ava and Nico.) Barbara died after a short illness but lived a very full life. Born in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield. Barbara graduated from Ludlow High School in 1949, where she was a member of many clubs; and a member of the National Honor Society. She met Walter on a blind date in 1954 and married there after. In 1960, they moved to Old Saybrook and raised their two sons, where she became a well known “sports mom” locally. Barbara also worked for over twenty years at the Shoreline YMCA and cultivated many friendships along the way. She remained a lifelong sports fan, especially loved her UCONN Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. Barbara was an incredible neighbor who never missed a birthday or holiday and was particularly adept at baking apple pies and chocolate chip cookies. She loved her grandchildren deeply and followed their lives and sports activities very closely. Barbara took tremendous pride in her gardens, flowers and landscaping hobbies. Barbara was also a member of St. John’s Church in Old Saybrook for 55 years. A service will be held at 2:00 PM at St. John’s Church on Saturday April 5th. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John’s Church [161 Main St, Old Saybrook, CT 06475] or Connecticut Hospice [100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405]
