Cherie was born September 23, 1973, in New Haven to John and Diane Alfonso of North Haven where she attended school and graduated from North Haven High School. Cherie went to college in pursuit of a nursing career when a medical issue sidetracked her path. She then transferred colleges and obtained an associate’s degree. She went to work for Southern New England Telephone Co. for many years post-graduation until early retirement. In typical Cherie fashion, she was not deterred and took the setback of not being in nursing and found a passion for home health care, serving many clients throughout the years.
Cherie’s greatest passion was always focused on her children Frankie and Gianna. She was always present for every baseball game, soccer game, dance recital, or school play. It didn’t matter what her kids were involved in, Cherie was always there, from little league all the way through high school. She will always be known as the mom that would take care of everyone after a game or event. Pile all the kids into her Honda pilot and bring them to her house to feed them until they were either picked up or asleep on a couch. Even after Frankie and Gianna graduated high school, she was still their biggest cheerleader throughout all their accomplishments. She will always be remembered by many for the things she sacrificed for her kids.
Cherie is survived by her parents John and Diane Alfonso of Ava Maria, FL., sister Renee and husband Bruno Riga of Guilford, CT., son Frankie J. Romano and daughter Gianna M. Romano of Haddam, CT., longtime boyfriend Dana M. Arnold of Haddam, CT., stepson Dana Arnold Jr. of Cromwell, CT., and niece and nephews Eva, Alex, and Nicholas Riga of Guilford, CT.
Cherie was a very giving and loving person that will be missed by all.
