Daniel Ghislain Proteau

Daniel Ghislain Proteau, 58, of Ivoryton, CT, passed away on December 15, 2023. Born on April 13, 1965 in Lake Megantic, Quebec, Canada. He was the beloved son of Luc Proteau and Gemma (LaPointe) Proteau. Danny graduated from Old Saybrook High School in 1983. He served countless families in Connecticut through his work as a business owner and drywall finisher for over 40 years.

Danny was a gentle, friendly man and a dedicated, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He deeply loved singing in the choirs, helping the missionaries, and planning Christmas and Easter programs. Danny absolutely loved to sing. He used his wonderful voice to lift others up, calm their spirits, and show people he loved them. He passed his love of all music onto his entire family, and all his children are musically talented. He attended every concert they ever had. He also attended every sports event they ever had. Danny was a sports fanatic. He had a gifted memory for all things sports, able to remember players, statistics, and highlights from any game, anytime, anywhere. Seriously. Recalling any local, national, international, or Olympic sports figures at the drop of a hat. Above all, Danny’s greatest accomplishment was his children. He found the most joy in spending time with them, the rest of his family, and the friends he held close to his heart, sharing “freakin” good times.

Danny is survived by his parents, Luc and Gemma Proteau, and his beloved sister Diane Rand, all of Old Saybrook, CT. He will be greatly missed by his children, Ashley Proteau-Neely of Killingworth, CT, Joshua Proteau or Porciana, FL, Elizabeth Proteau of West Springfield, MA, Mary Proteau of Salt Lake City, UT, and Hannah Proteau of Virginia Beach, VA. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Rizwaan Abbott, and Ryder, and Parker Proteau.

Calling hours for Danny will be held on Tuesday, December 19, from 4 until 7pm, at Swan Funeral Home, located at 1224 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT.

A funeral service will be held at the Madison Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 275 Warpas Rd, Madison, CT on Friday, December 22nd, 2023 at 5pm.

In memory of Danny, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to your local High School Fine Arts and Athletics Programs, supporting future generations of students.
