
Dorothy Louise Anderson was born on August 4, 1948, in Lake Wales, Florida, to the late John Tillman and Daisy Williams. A woman of deep faith, unwavering love, and quiet strength, Dorothy touched the lives of everyone blessed to know her.
On February 5, 1965, Dorothy married the love of her life, Irvin Anderson, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a home in Connecticut, where Dorothy created a life centered on family, faith, and service. She passed away peacefully in Hamden, Connecticut, surrounded by love.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Dorothy retired from R.R. Donnelley and Sons of Old Saybrook and continued working at Marshalls in Old Saybrook up until her passing. Her strong work ethic reflected her character—reliable, humble, and committed.
Dorothy was a devoted member of Shoreline Church in Old Lyme, Connecticut, where she faithfully served and generously gave of her time. She was an active participant in the Women’s Group and was known as a true prayer warrior. Her faith in God guided every aspect of her life, and she lived as a God-fearing Christian who believed deeply in love, service, and family.
She enjoyed going out to eat with friends and shopping, and she was known for her stylish fashion sense. Above all, Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. She was the glue that held everyone together—checking in, offering encouragement, and sharing unconditional love.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Samuel Tillman (Marlon) and Wilbert Williams (Barbara); her daughters, Judy Williams (Calvin), Sheila Hilton (John), and Wanda Carrier (Derrick). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Frank Nicholson (Milly), Terrell Nicholson (Chandel), Kyle Harris, Jamarr Harris (Corrine), Tanesha Harris, Anthony Carrier II, J’Voni Hilton, Donnell Hilton (Nekia), Chris Hilton, and Sylvia Hilton; along with 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Hattie Herring, and her brothers, Willie McKnight and Ernest McKnight.
Known for her loving spirit and open heart, Dorothy truly loved everyone. She was family-oriented, compassionate, and always willing to pray for or help someone in need. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 11am until 12pm at the Shoreline Church, located at 287 Shore Rd, Old Lyme, CT 06371. Immediately following calling hours, a Funeral Mass will be held in the same location.
Burial will take place at Lake Wales Cemetery in Lakes Wales, Florida on January 10, 2026.
