

John P. Bongiovanni, 89, of Haddam passed away peacefully, on September 6, 2011, from natural causes surrounded by his family. Born on June 20, 1922 in Russellton, PA, the son of John and Pauline (Massimino) Bongiovanni John is originally from Russellton, PA, having moved to CT in 1963. John leaves behind his companion Geraldine Todd, his sons Dennis, Larry, Anthony and John Paul and his grandchildren Stephan and Alexandra. He also leaves behind his brother Carl and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Chester and sisters Grace and Margaret.
Among his many achievements, John was known for his masonry work, his two companies Keystone Masonry in Chester and Masonry Specialty in Pennsylvania and his many patents, including corner poles, Thermalbar and his roofing systems.
An Army Air Force veteran of WWII, he landed on Normandy Beach after D-Day to help establish communications. He was an artist, organic gardener, inventor, father, grandfather and friend. He was a benevolent man, always willing to help anyone who needed help; he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, on Friday September 9, from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church, Middlesex Ave., Chester, CT. Please go directly to church.
