

Joyce Adith Lafave Strempel of Deep River & Haddam died on Saturday April 2nd after a brief illness. She was born on April 15, 1924 to Frederick and Myrtle (Orton) Lafave of Malone, NY. Joyce was a resident of Deep River for over 65 years after marrying the love of her life the late Alfred B Strempel. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved gardening, crafting, reading and spending time with her family & friends. She will be remembered for her kind words and caring ways.
She was an honorary lifetime member of The Connecticut Historical Automobile Society. She was a longtime member of the Deep River Congregational Church, The Historical Society, The Garden Club, The Town Hall Restoration Committee, The Homemakers Club & The over 60 Club and was involved in many other community activities.
She leaves behind one sister Kay Lafave Martin and her husband Robert of Brownsville, NY. & one sister-in-law Elizabeth “Liz” Lafave of Malone, NY. She is survived by her two sons Mark Strempel and his wife Nancy (Appell), Frederick Strempel and his wife Jeannette (Davis), both of Deep River. Two Grandsons, Christopher Strempel and his wife Jill (Sypher) of Chester, Todd Strempel and his partner Courtney Sokraz of Wallingford, and One Great-Grandson, Christopher Andrew Strempel of Chester. She also leaves behind her very special friend Robert O’Brien of Chester.
Joyce is survived by eight nieces and three nephews for which she shared a special bond, they are Paula (Kraft) Gilbert of NY., Janie (Lafave) Lijewski of Manistee, MI, Jill (Lafave) Divine of Micco, Fl., Jeannie (Broedlin) Trombley of Altona, NY., Patricia Broedlin of Deep River, Susan (Broedlin) Grosso of Central Square, NY., Allison (Broedlin) Golden of Hastings, NY., Renee (Lafave) Conger of Malone, NY and Nephews Andre Kraft of Scottsdale, AZ, Rudy Broedlin of Wayne, NJ. & Frederick “Rick” Lafave of Micco, Fl.
She was predeceased by her sister Jeanne Lafave Kraft and her brother Frederick “Teddy” Orton Lafave.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday April 6th from 6-8pm at the Swan Funeral Home 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, Ct. A memorial service will take place at the Deep River Congregational Church, Church Street, Deep River on Thursday April 7th at 11am.
