Margaret (Abner) Riccitelli, of Old Saybrook, passed, surrounded by her loving family, on January 30, 2024. Margaret, or Peggy as she was known, was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Riccitelli, Sr., her parents, Edward and Mildred (Gleason) Abner and her sisters, Elinore Parise, Marion Flynn, Florence Fueher, Helen Benham and Mildred Thibault. Peggy had many jobs during her lifetime - always saying that she "did not know what she wanted to be when she grew up", but the greatest job she said she ever had was raising her family. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves to carry on her legacy her children; Pamela (Ernest) Cartier, Mary Anne (John) Holland, Joseph (Amy) Riccitelli, Jr., James (Diana) Riccitelli, Amy (Josh) Hoppe; her grandchildren, Kristen (Lachlan) Brennan, Eric (Wendy) Cartier, Jessica (Karl) Hecht, Melissa Holland, Laura Holland, Holly Riccitelli, Jared Riccitelli, James Riccitelli, Danny Riccitelli, Travis Formica, Jake Riccitelli, Anthony Riccitelli, Giovanni Riccitelli, Cassie Hoppe and Brady Hoppe; and her great-grandchildren, Parker, Walker, Kailey, Benjamin, Allison, Zachary, Alden and Catalina as well as a large extended family of nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly. There is no replacing the gift and the force that was Peggy. She was a truly selfless person who loved everyone and gave of herself without a second thought. She will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her and been a part of her life.
Calling hours will be at Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook on Friday 2/16 from 5-8. A mass will be held at St. John's Church in Old Saybrook on Saturday, 2/17 at 12 noon, with a celebration of life to follow.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice, or the charity of your choice, in Peggy's memory.
