On July 2, 2025 Martin Simandy of Rocky Hill CT peacefully passed away. He was born on February 1,1937 in Hungary. He came to the United States after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, and became a citizen shortly after. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Mary Szimandli (Simandy) and his 8 brothers and sisters, and son in law Ben Chiappa. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Simandy (nee Deak), his daughters, Andrea Simandy Chiappa (Bill), Sandra Eniko Ruggiero (John), his cherished grandchildren, Chelsea Rose Ehmke (Eric), Victoria Noel Chiappa (Alex), Christopher J.P. Chiappa (Sara) and his great grandchild Eleanor Rose Ehmke. Martin also leaves behind his brother in law Laszlo Deak (Fanny) and brother in law Arpad Deak (Marta) as well as many nieces and nephews. Martin was a soccer player, and still managed to kick the ball around even after several strokes. He was the owner of Simandy Roofing in Yonkers, NY. He was a member of the Hungarian Club in Wallingford, CT. He loved good food, and had a reputation in his family for letting you know what he liked and did not like. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around. He had a lot of charm. He loved chocolate, and when asked who ate all of it he would laugh and point to his wife! He loved playing black jack and was notorious for winning often. Martin was a stylish dresser and even in his decline he had fond memories of dressing up and going out on the town. He loved music and would always be open to singing a tune for anyone around. He enjoyed vacationing and his family will always remember visits to Lake George especially. Husband, daddy, grandpa and pa he will be missed by his family but knowing he is at peace and his suffering has ended brings Grace to our family.
We are very grateful to Hospice of Hartford and all their care in his last month. In lieu of a funeral a private celebration of life was held.
If you wish to leave a memory of Martin please feel free to do so. In lieu of flowers we ask contributions be made to Hospice so they may continue to care for people so lovingly in their end of life.
